Dr Jayashree Gupta is a dynamic personality who has been an active supporter in addressing and raising important consumer issues including access to affordable medicines, unethical medical practices, misleading advertisements, junk food, consumer justice and save the girl child to name a few, with a view and mission to safeguard interests of the masses.

Dr Gupta actively promoted Jago Grahak Jago Campaign in the country during six years of her posting in Department of Consumer Affairs from the year 2000 to 2006. In addition, she has been part of various other initiatives including setting up of national consumer helpline, consumer clubs and involvement of educational institutions to name a few.

She retired in May 2010 as the Additional Secretary to Govt of India & Chairperson-cum-Managing Director (CMD), Indian Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Limited (IDPL) after serving Govt of India for 37 long years. She infused a new life into chronically sick IDPL (a CPSE) by bringing about 1500% growth in less than 4 years.
