Dr Ali Mehdi

Dr Ali Mehdi Senior Fellow and Project Leader, Health Policy Initiative, Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER)



Dr Ali Mehdi is a Senior Fellow and leads the Health Policy Initiative (HPI) at the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), New Delhi. He has 14 years of research experience on a wide range of global health issues (G20, UN, WHO, North America, Europe, South / East / Southeast Asia) – drug and food regulatory reforms, chronic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, demography, human capital formation and universal health care to name a few.

As part of HPI, Ali has engaged with a variety of influential stakeholders from central and state-level policymakers to international organizations, industry, civil society and academia. He has conducted field research in close to a dozen Indian states and developed/developing countries, drawing policy lessons from a wide variety of contexts. Among his recent books are – ‘A shot of justice: Priority-setting for addressing child mortality’ (Oxford University Press 2019) and a forthcoming co-edited volume, ‘Health of the Nation: India’ (Oxford University Press 2020).
